Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a military coup in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" emerged.

This encompassed seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his son.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your homeland, or see it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I urge you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so backers could "pray for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's ruling was the potential of Bolsonaro's "relocation to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a record of arranging to seek refuge through a embassy office", a statement said.

The legal document emphasizes that the United States embassy in the capital, Brazil's capital, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow conservative nationalist American leader Trump, prompting him to impose a half-rate duty on goods coming from Brazil.

The former president is being held in a national police facility in Brasilia and will have a custody hearing on the next day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under home confinement, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that the former president be authorized to depart his residence for medical treatment, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other illnesses.

Background on Conviction

He was determined responsible of leading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the 2022 election to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plan which encompassed plans to assassinate Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been managing the former president's case.

The police took action and around approximately 1,500 persons were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the rioters had been encouraged by him whose strategy, they said, was for the national armed forces to intervene, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence extremely harsh.

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - eight years after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
